IUPAC nomenclature - what comes first: dimethyl- or ethyl-?

Say on your main chain, you have 2 methyl and 1 ethyl substituents. What would you write first when you write the name of the compound, dimethyl or ethyl? I'm wondering weather the prefix "di-" should be taken into account when alphabetizing substituents.
